BASIC BALD B*TCH

Hair is everything. Until it’s not. Until it’s 2007 Britney b*tch.

A one-hour, one-woman, one-night stand of a show all about Amy. Because everyone wants to be Amy. Until her hair starts falling out in all of the wrong places.

What follows is a knotty mess of swimming caps, cat shit and four-finger foreheads. Things buried threaten to rear their ugly bald head. She doesn’t want to remember. But she can’t stop thinking about the door. Her bedroom door. And the man hiding behind it.

Now Amy attempts to take back her body, one fake eyebrow at a time.

Using drag and comedy, BASIC BALD B*TCH explores desire, sexuality and the lengths we go to hide who we really are.

Inspired by my experiences of having alopecia and navigating the aftermath of an assault. This is a story for anyone who has felt afraid to be seen.

BACKGROUND

In September 2024, the show was part of a work-in-progress festival at Brixton House, London. Since then the script has been developed further and we’re currently preparing for the show’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut.

When news articles featuring Bella Hadid wearing a bald cap referred to her as an AI alien robot, I knew I wanted to write something about it.

Someone being bald is often the first thing used to shock people, or it’s the monster in films, or it’s to point at for comedy.

This cabaret performance BELLA BALDID was inspired by this media frenzy and the idea that through drag, clown and comedy I can reclaim these differences.
